台灣燈會因疫情停辦，新竹文化局在新竹議會進行專案報告，新竹文化局正式宣布，燈會將轉型為「2021光臨藝術節」，將在7月登場，為期近兩個月，屆時來自台、日、英、德、義等來自8個國家藝術家，將用光雕、音樂、藝術「讓古蹟說故事。76件作品將坐落於東大光廊、隆恩圳燈區5區，多個店家也有插畫家、藝術家製作的創意燈籠，絕對讓民眾收穫滿滿。

新竹市文化局今在新竹市議會進行「台灣燈會停辦專案報告」，文化局長黃竫蕙表示，2021光臨藝術節將在即將到來兒藝節，將有前導活動，4月2日至4月5日晚間時段，在新竹州廳、消防博物館、林務局新竹林區管理處、警察局將有「環狀型光雕」，光雕主角將隨著劇情跳躍到4座建築上。

新竹市長林智堅也透過臉書公布光雕作品，他說，2021光臨藝術節就是擺脫過去一年多來疫情的陰霾，把光帶到所有人的眼前，「光臨」象徵邀請貴賓來到新竹市，同時也有「光來臨」，黑暗散去，帶來光明與希望。2021新竹光臨藝術節7、8月登場，照亮古城，陪大家過暑假。

市府指出，來自日本NAKED創意團隊及德國柏林節策展團隊為新竹火車站及站前客運大樓量身訂做光雕秀，新竹火車站將與「姊妹車站」日本東京車站光影重疊，兩座古蹟隔海呼應。

除國際天團外，台灣在地藝術團隊也將展出，國定古蹟東門城化身為「全台灣最大」戶外環形劇場，以未來、夢想、勇氣訴說台灣故事。

不僅在展區，在舊城區多個店家，也將擺放由插畫家、藝術家、設計師製作創意燈籠。新竹市府將夜晚點變成當代藝廊，帶領民眾感受不同面貌的新竹市。

The Taiwan Lantern Festival was closed due to the epidemic, and the Hsinchu Cultural Bureau conducted a project report at the Hsinchu Parliament. The Hsinchu Cultural Bureau officially announced that the lantern will be transformed into the "2021 Visiting Art Festival". It will debut in July and last for nearly two months. Artists from 8 countries, including Hong Kong, England, Germany, and Yi, will use light carving, music, and art to "let historical sites tell stories. 76 works will be located in the 5th district of Dongda Guanglang and Longenzhen Light District. Many shops also have illustrations. The creative lanterns made by homes and artists definitely make the people reap the rewards.

The Cultural Affairs Bureau of Hsinchu City is presenting the "Taiwan Lantern Festival Suspension Project Report" at the Hsinchu City Council today. The Director of Culture Huang Linghui said that the 2021 Art Festival will be in the upcoming Children's Art Festival, and there will be leading activities, from April 2 to the evening of April 5 During the period, there will be "ring-shaped light sculptures" at the Hsinchu State Department, Fire Museum, Forestry Bureau Hsinchu Forest District Management Office, and Police Station. The protagonist of the light sculpture will jump to 4 buildings along with the plot.

Hsinchu Mayor Lin Zhijian also announced the sculpture works through Facebook. He said that coming to the art festival in 2021 is to get rid of the haze of the epidemic over the past year and bring light to everyone. "Visiting" symbolizes inviting VIPs to Hsinchu City. At the same time, there is "light coming." The darkness dissipates, bringing light and hope. The 2021 Hsinchu Art Festival will debut in July and August to illuminate the ancient city and accompany you through the summer vacation.

The city government pointed out that the creative team from Japan’s NAKED and the Berlin Festival curatorial team from Germany tailor-made a light sculpture show for the Hsinchu Railway Station and the passenger terminal in front of the station. Hsinchu Railway Station will overlap with the "sister station" Tokyo Station in Japan. The monuments echo across the sea.

In addition to the international troupe, a local art team in Taiwan will also exhibit. The national historic site Dongmen City has been transformed into the "largest in Taiwan" outdoor circular theater, telling the story of Taiwan with the future, dreams, and courage.

Not only in the exhibition area, but also in many shops in the old city, creative lanterns made by illustrators, artists, and designers will also be placed. The Hsinchu City Hall turned the night spot into a contemporary art gallery, leading the public to experience the different aspects of Hsinchu City.
