今日上午10點鐘,臺北市政府涉外事務副執行長益子翔等率領團隊成員,陪同馬來西亞辦事處首席代表何瑞萍(Sharon Ho)及幕僚,到臺北市立動物園參觀大貓熊館、熱帶雨林區及穿山甲館,並聆聽園方分享推展野生動物保育的經驗,期盼能共同強化對臺、馬野生動物保育的專業交流與合作。
臺北市立動物園自2006年起,即與馬來西亞動物園界或保育機構持續交流,除與同為東南亞動物園暨水族館協會(以下稱SEAZA)成員的馬來西亞國家動物園(Zoo Negara)、馬六甲動物園(Zoo Melaka)與太平動物園(Zoo Taiping)等舉辦獸醫訓練工作坊及動物調度交流,也與侏儒象、紅毛猩猩、馬來熊等保育機構保持互動,希望能一起翻轉野生動物面臨快速滅絕危機的趨勢,為維護亞洲地區的生物多樣性而努力。
婆羅洲侏儒象野外族群量估計不到2000隻,但當地熱帶雨林持續被砍伐轉種油棕樹,造成野生侏儒象原生棲地大幅縮減與破碎化,也迫使侏儒象進入農園覓食,人象衝突時有所聞。臺北市立動物園於2015年,即與日本北海道旭山動物園攜手合作,進行婆羅洲侏儒象的保育計畫,並於2015年及2016年兩度前往馬來西亞沙巴,辦理動物麻醉獸醫師訓練工作坊,期望提升當地野生動物醫療技術,增加動物救傷存活率。另為透過跨機構的合作,提升極度瀕危物種域外族群的管理,2016年臺北市立動物園同仁於擔任SEAZA紅毛猩猩管理計畫的主協調人時,曾協助調度新加坡動物園的雄性個體加入太平動物園(Zoo Taiping)進行繁殖配對,並於2017年、2019年及2020年順利繁衍後代。
為了促進野生動植物保護,臺北動物園一直與馬來西亞動物園和保育機構維持密切聯繫。這次,通過臺北市政府涉外事務副執行長益子翔及團隊成員,陪同馬來西亞辦事處首席代表何瑞萍(Sharon Ho)及幕僚至臺北市立動物園參訪的機會,動物園還特別邀請張曄和他的室友張郡,他是目前在國立台灣大學獸醫系學習的馬來西亞華僑,並發起了“朱先生,萬先生”來宣傳傳染病。陪同何代表一行參觀並分享在臺灣的學習經驗,希望加深台灣與馬來西亞在野生動植物保護方面的專業合作。馬來西亞辦事處很高興看到目前正懷孕中的馬來貘Malayan Tapir「貘莉」,並期待能為即將出生的馬來貘寶寶命名。
