1988: The first meeting of the Seventh National People's Congress passed the decision on the establishment of Hainan Province and the establishment of the Hainan Special Economic Zone.
21st century
2012: The Supreme People's Assembly of North Korea elected Kim Jong Un as the first chairman of the North Korean National Defense Commission. Prior to this, on April 11, the Fourth Representative Conference of the Workers’ Party of Korea elected him the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.
2012: North Korea’s Guangmingxing 3 communications satellite was lifted off by the Inhe 3 carrier rocket in Teshan County, North Pyongan Province, and then crashed due to an explosion of the carrier rocket.
2015: The Lieber Free Republic, a private state, was established in Siga, on the border of Croatia and Serbia.
