528年：已故北魏孝明帝元詡之女元氏被祖母胡太后（宣武靈皇后）以先帝皇子身份擁立為皇帝，是為中國歷史上第一位稱帝的女性，但不被後世普遍承認，當日即被廢黜，次日由元釗即位。

2001年：中美撞機事件：一架被懷疑在進行間諜偵查任務的美國EP-3E偵察機在中國領空附近與中國一架戰鬥機相撞，中方飛機失事，美方飛機迫降海南島，機上24名美軍被拘留，中美關係陷入低潮。

2001年：

前南斯拉夫聯盟總統米洛塞維奇因涉嫌濫用職權等罪被塞爾維亞警方逮捕。

同性婚姻在荷蘭獲得法律認同，成為世界上第一個承認同性婚姻合法的國家。

2002年：荷蘭安樂死法律正式生效，成為世界上第一個承認安樂死合法的國家。
