國門廣場工程即將全面啟動，觸動基隆交通脈動與城市地景大翻轉，而伴隨基隆人日常，矗立火車站前，歷經近五十年歲月時光的基一信橋，將走入歷史；市府3月11日起舉辦「再見了天橋，期待蛻變的基隆」活動，市長林右昌邀大家「一話一照」留言分享，揮別過去，一起迎接嶄新基隆市貌。

市長林右昌表示，國門廣場工程代表基隆身為台灣頭，作為國門海洋門戶的嶄新面貌，鄰近的基隆轉運站工程，亦如火如荼施工中，未來將串聯火車站的南北站，各式樣的大眾運輸工具聚集於此，這裡是基隆的心臟地帶，天橋已是不合時宜的過去公共設施產物，基隆作為現代化與進步的城市，要與大台北地區一起整合成大台北首都生活圈，因應民眾日常通勤、旅客觀光及未來會展洽商等需求等；天橋拆除，城市天際線將會更為寬闊，未來不僅是城市景觀的改變，更是整個城市的現代性，光榮感與驕傲感，它代表的是整個國家門戶，台灣頭的一個蛻變與更新，更是對台灣城市建設與未來發展，開啟一個指標性意義。

觀光及城市行銷處曾姿雯處長表示，「再見了天橋，期待蛻變的基隆」活動，自3月11日開始，邀請大家到天橋留下一段想對天橋說的一句話，並勾勒基隆的未來與期許，再將與基一信橋的合照，上傳至「林右昌UChange」臉書專頁，市府將抽出50位幸運朋友，送出基隆專屬文創小物，活動時間至3月17日下午17時止。

基信一橋拆除工程，將配合火車站周邊環境改善，並降低交通衝擊，調整部分公車路線停靠點，自3月20日凌晨開始進行，以連續48小時不斷電施工；施工單位預計在動工後7小時內，拆除靠近國光客運臨時站的第一跨距天橋橋體，天亮後，便可恢復國光客運前及火車站南站前的交通，把對於交通的衝擊降到最低。籲請民眾期間行經工區時，遵循警義交人員指引。

根據火車站前基一信陸橋上落款資料，這座天橋是由基隆市第一信用合作社，為了市民安全通行所捐資建造，於1972年12月25日落成啟用，隨基隆火車站周邊環境改善及轉運站、國門廣場工程陸續開展，功成身退。
